AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Tascosa Lady Rebels are off to a 4-0 start in their first season under new head coach Zac Tabor.

After the retirement of longtime head coach Chris Sumrall and a strong run to the regional finals last season, the Lady Rebels are stepping into a new era under Tabor’s leadership.

Before taking over at Tascosa, Tabor was head coach for the 6A San Antonio Lady Rattlers for three seasons, and assistant coach for 4A Argyle Lady Eagles, where he won a state championship in 2019 and was runner-up in 2020.

Smooth transition

Tabor said the transition has been seamless due to what has already been in place.

“Well, they had a really good foundation, and there’s a really good foundation here. [Coach Sumrall] did a good job of setting that, and then our athletic department as a whole has set that,” Tabor said. “But really, there’s a very strong foundation here at Tascosa, and especially in the girls’ basketball program, there’s a high expectation.”

Early season results

The Lady Rebels have won four games to start the season. They defeated Mansfield Summit 63-41, beat preseason No. 1-ranked in 6A Boswell 71-35, defeated Frenship Memorial 74-37 and beat Frenship 48-38.
