BUSHLAND, Texas (KFDA) - The Bushland Lady Falcons volleyball team will compete for their ninth state championship title Friday, seeking their third consecutive championship in Class 3A Division I.
Bushland swept all three opponents in the first round before meeting Peaster in the regional finals, winning in four sets to advance to the state semifinals.
The Lady Falcons advanced to the state championship game for the sixth straight season after defeating Ponder in five sets during the state semifinals in Wichita Falls Saturday. They will face the Goliad Tigerettes for the second consecutive year in the championship game.
Coach discusses championship preparation
Bushland head volleyball coach Jason Culpepper said his team will need to perform at their highest level to defeat Goliad.
“To be honest with you, Goliad is again a fantastic team and we’ll have to play our best both offensively and defensively,” Culpepper said. “They are a little different than Ponder in that their setter is really, really good and they have a middle that’s...really good. So instead of the outside, they have the middle. So that presents some different challenges and we’ll have to play some defense, but volleyball comes down to serve and pass, and we’ll have to be good offensively.”

A victory for Bushland would give the program five state titles in the last six years and a win for the Tigerettes would be their third state championship.
The championship game will be played at 11 a.m. Friday at Curtis Culwell Arena in Garland, Texas.
