BUSHLAND, Texas (KFDA) - The high school football bi-district round concluded with a few upsets, but the Bushland Falcons delivered one of the biggest by defeating the Lamesa Tornadoes, 40-21.

The Falcons struggled during the regular season, finishing third in District 1-3A DI. However, they capitalized in the playoffs by knocking off second-seeded Lamesa to keep their season alive.

Bushland head football coach Josh Reynolds said Friday on Sports Drive that the victory was one of the most special wins he has experienced at Bushland and he’s proud of his athletes for fighting the good fight.

“Every team in Texas has some type of cute slogan, whether it’s a hashtag or whatever it is...everybody’s got them, but they don’t win you games and they don’t win you championships,” Reynolds said. “Those slogans do define your program if you allow it to. One thing we talked about is TPW...tough people win.”

Reynolds said the team’s “TPW” motto helped define the program’s identity.

“TPW doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to win a game. It doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to win the state championship, but it can define what your program’s about,” he said. “That’s the thing I’m most proud about this team is that TPW has meant a lot to us...we’ve fought through that. We’ve been mentally tough to be able to get through some hard times.”

The Falcons will be back on the football field Friday facing Jim Ned at Lowrey Field in Lubbock, Texas at 7:30 p.m. CST.
