AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Tulia Hornets were one of many teams that shined Friday night as they defeated Sanford-Fritch on the road, 63-46.
Tulia junior quarterback, Jacob Trevino, completed 26/33 passes, throwing for seven touchdowns and recording 404 yards.
Despite it being the Eagles’ homecoming, the Hornets tuned out the noise and scored first, going into halftime up one and never letting Sanford-Fritch take the lead.
Hornets’ head football coach, Fred Jordan, says this team came out and handled business, knowing this game would be an indicator of the progress this squad has made thus far.
“We capitalized on some crucial mistakes that Fritch made...we were able to respond and just keep adding on to our lead,” he said. “I definitely think... when that happens, it seems to fuel and motivate your team. We had a mentality that this game was going to make or break our season. We dropped the game to River Road that we really felt like we should have had and I just challenged the guys all week [to] brush it off...next play, next week, next game...and let’s go into this one like a do or die mindset.”
The Hornets will host the West Texas High Comanches Thursday at 7:00 p.m. CST, who are coming off a huge win over #5 Gruver.
