SHAMROCK, Texas (KFDA) - Shamrock head football coach, Nate Skelton, understands that there’s a lot that goes into creating a good football team. But, at the forefront, it has to be strong kids that are buying in and giving their all for one another.
The season nears, and with that comes responsibility from everyone to step up, even the new guys.
“I have faith in the coaches knowing that they know what they’re talking about, and I try and get that to the team...try and keep them pumped up,” said junior Jace Marshall. It’s just his first year on this Irish varsity squad.
Trent Baggett is only a sophomore, but he understands that greatness isn’t given, it’s earned.
“Being there for my guys...trying to be my best...try to put all my efforts in like they do,” he said. “I have no doubt that we’ll be good this year.”

Senior Kyle Ishee has never won a gold ball. In his final year, he has hope.
“Never had one in my entire life,” Ishee said. “We’ve been close but just haven’t got it yet and I hope this is our year.”
Skelton knows that the ‘we before me’ mentality will lead them in the right direction.
“The older kids...they’re getting into the swing of things again,” Skelton said. “These younger guys are kind of falling in line.”
He continued.

“I don’t think it’s about the coaches. It’s about the kids. When those kids start to convey that message, that means that we’re doing the right thing and and kids will follow kids. They typically don’t follow coaches, and that’s what we want.”
