AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - After making it to the third round of the playoffs last season for the first time since 2021, the Tascosa Rebels know they can be even better this year.

Head coach, Ken Plunk, has been at the helm of the Rebels’ program for the last 17 years.

“They’re all different,” he said. “I mean, you get the different group of kids...you never have the same combination from year to year.”

Now that he has a solid group of returners, they have their eye on the prize.

“Our message is pretty clear: let’s just play every game, keep improving and control what we can control,” Plunk stated. “But, in the same instance, it’s really how you finish more than how you start.”

Senior slot receiver, Reese Cabe, knows what the end goal is.

“[I’m] really excited to put my best out there and try to win a state championship,” Cabe said.

One piece of the puzzle is the quarterback.

Coltyn Fulton is back after suffering injuries last year. He’ll be under center for the third straight season as starting quarterback, the first in the Plunk era.

“I’ve just been around the program for a long time and I love it here,” Fulton said. “I’ve just kind of worked my way up and found myself here.”

Fulton understands that success doesn’t just come from putting in hard work.

“We’re leaders...you have to show the team what’s right, what’s wrong, and even when things are going good, you still have to be on everybody and make sure that we continue to do what’s needed,” he said.

His leadership has a strong effect on others.

“He’s a great guy...great quarterback, great leader...always knows what’s best for the program,” said Cabe.

That’s what Plunk wants representing his program every single time these guys step out on the football field: understanding it’s a privilege, not a right.

“We have a serious football team and if you’re not serious about playing the game the way we want it played, then we really don’t want you on this team.”
