PLAINVIEW, Texas (KFDA) - The Stamford Bulldogs defeated the Gruver Greyhounds, 2-1, on Saturday.
It was Game 2 of the 2A D2 Region 1 Championship, with Stamford entering the series with a 1-0 lead.
Both teams scored in the first inning, but it was a low-scoring affair afterward. The Bulldogs’ run in the 3rd inning ended up being the game-winner.
Bo Cowan was credited with the Greyhounds’ lone RBI, a walk that came in the bottom of the 1st. Briggs Satterfield was the only Hound to register a hit, batting a perfect 4-4.
Satterfield also pitched just over six innings with one strikeout, allowing two earned runs on nine hits.

Alek Hernandez and Kaston Vega scored Stamford’s two RBIs. Hernandez pitched all seven innings with two strikeouts, allowing one earned run on four hits.
With the win, Stamford advances to the state semifinal series. Gruver’s season ends with a record of 21-3.
It wasn’t just one season of greatness for the Greyhounds.
They were one of two Panhandle teams to reach the state semifinal in football, finishing with a record of 14-1.
Then, in boys basketball, they were undefeated for the majority of the year, finishing as regional finalists with a mark of 19-2.

With all of that winning, they were the only Panhandle school to make the regional final in football, boys basketball and baseball.
Being a 2A school, all three teams were comprised of many of the same athletes.
Their final cumulative record is a whopping 54-6.
Perhaps even more impressive: only one of their six losses in 60 total games played came outside of the playoffs.
