SAN ANTONIO (KFDA) - In their first ever state championship appearance, the #20 Valley Patriots lost to the #2 Perrin-Whitt Pirates, 65-46.

The Pirates led the entire time and subsequentially won their first state championship in program history.

Jack McCormick for the Pirates led all scorers with 28 points and going 4-6 from the three-point arc.

Perrin-Whitt was able to find success through the three-point shot, shooting 47.8 percent in the game (11-23), while Valley couldn’t get things going, only shooting 15 percent from three (3-20).

Three factors also played a huge role in Perrin-Whitt’s success was points off of turnovers, fast break points, and steals. The Pirates had 20 points off of turnovers, 17 fast break points, and 12 steals.

Valley’s Corbin Taylor had a huge effort despite the loss, recording a double-double with 25 points and 17 rebounds.

Valley ends their season as state champion runner-ups and a 34-4 overall record.
