SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KFDA) - The #5 Nazareth Swiftettes defeated the #11 Saltillo Lady Lions by a score of 53-31 in the 1A D2 State Championship Game on Thursday.
The Swiftettes were dominant on both sides of the ball from the opening tip, taking a 14-4 lead by the end of the first quarter.
They continued to build on their lead, heading into the half leading 26-11, without letting up until the final buzzer. They held the lead for the entire game.
Nazareth was led by Brooklyn Birkenfeld, who led all scorers with 22 points, winning the MVP award.
Other Swiftette standouts included Jolee Pigg, who totaled 10 points, and Madison Brockman, who logged seven assists. Both Pigg and Brockman had four steals each.

The win marks Nazareth’s 26th state championship all-time, moving to an astounding record of 26-5 in the state championship game.
The Swiftettes finish the season with a record of 29-9, while the Lady Lions fall to 34-7. It’s Saltillo’s second state runner-up season in program history. They have never won the state championship.
