CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - Opening up their season against the Plainview Bulldogs, head coach Dan Sherwood and the Raiders got to work early.

The ground game worked very well for Randall, running back, Dylan Ray, finding success almost every time he touched the ball. Plus with quarterback, Kasion Benton, proving that he can be mobile too, scoring the first Raider touchdown of the year off a read option, Randall had no problem moving the ball down the field in route to their 26-16 win.

Despite the victory, key players on the team, like senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back, R.J. Matthews, said they were not content with their performance.

“It felt great, but like Coach Sherwood said, we weren’t satisfied as a team,” Matthews said. “We expected a lot actually, but Plainview was a pretty good team, but we expected to blow them out.”

Coach Sherwood seconded that, saying that they preached finishing the game out better, but was still shocked to see his guys excitement not matching a team who won their home-opener.

“I’ve never seen a group of kids more determined and upset after a win,” Sherwood said. “To have kids be that hungry, you know you’ve got a special group.”

Sherwood and the Raiders will look to go 1-0 again this week, traveling to Monahans to face the Loboes, who are still searching for that first win of the year after a three-point loss to Shallowater last week.

Both teams back under the Friday night lights at Estes Memorial Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
