PAMPA, Texas (KFDA) - Coming to lead his alma mater, Pampa football head coach, Floyd White, takes over a Harvesters team that is carrying an underdog mindset this season.
As a graduate from the school himself, Coach White says it is special to be back in Pampa.
“It’s one of those things when you’re a little kid and you grow up, you’re just like, man, I want to be a harvester for life,” White said. “To be back here and to be able to help my community that helped raise and shape me, and to be able to do those things, to me, you don’t get any better than this.”
The 2-8 Pampa record for the 2023-24 season has motivated the Harvesters this off-season, and Coach White said this has been a grueling off-season, but his guys are hungry.
“From day one, these guys have come out here, they’ve worked their tail off,” White said. “There’s never been a day off. There was one day I went to kick them off the field because they just weren’t practicing very hard, and they refused to go off the field. They came back out there and they went right back to work. They realized where they messed up, and that’s what’s exciting about these guys. They know what’s ahead of them, and they know that they have an opportunity to do some great things.”

New seniors this year for Pampa, so some new leaders in the huddles and on the sidelines. One player that wants to make his senior year special, WR/CB Bryce Lynn.
“There’s been greats in the past, and a lot of people came out of here,” Lynn said. “I’m just hoping to be the next one, and then hopefully, a bunch more [players] get to be great after this.”
Senior Safety, Britten Joyce, said that listening to Coach White has helped not just him this off-season, but the whole team.
“I think we have a lot of discipline and just working a lot harder,” Joyce said. “We’re just listening, and I think we’re acting a lot more on the listening part.”
The tide is certainly starting to turn in Pampa, and Coach White says that they have all the fire the need lit under them before this season gets underway.

“They’re never going to have to knock on the locker room door to get us coming out,” White said. “We’re always going to be out there waiting and chomping at the bit to get after anybody.”
Lots of travel for Coach White and his crew this year. The Harvesters will get their season started next Friday, making the three hour journey to Iowa Park, before coming back to Pampa for their next three games. Then an hour on the road to face another new face in a new place, Josh Hernandez, and the Perryton Rangers.
District play getting started after their bye-week on October 11th against the Hostile Herd. A revenge tour this season for the Harvesters who did not beat any of their district opponents last year.
