LUBBOCK, Texas (KFDA) - The West Plains Lady Wolves fell to Midland Greenwood on Thursday evening in the high school soccer playoffs.
It was a hard-fought battle for the Lady Wolves, falling in penalty kicks to the Lady Rangers.
Kat Torres and Ava Nash netted goals in regulation for the Lady Wolves, both of which put West Plains temporarily in front.
However, on both occasions, Midland Greenwood had an answer. Both of the Lady Rangers goals came off free kick opportunities and ultimately forced the game into penalty kicks.
In penalty kicks, Midland Greenwood goalkeeper Farrah Fortner made numerous big stops and allowed her teammates to secure the 3-1 edge to claim victory over West Plains.

“More than anything, it’s been a great two years for the girls I’ve had for the past two years.” Lady Wolves head coach Amberlee Gerald said of her message to the team after the loss. “For those who are returning, remember this feeling. It’s not a fun feeling, but it’s a motivating feeling... It’s even harder when you’ve got a sister on the team who’s a senior because then it makes it a little bit more emotional, but really all eight of my seniors, we hate to see them go.”
The Lady Wolves season comes to an end at 15-7-3 in the program’s second year.
